Football
If there is one thing which I absolutely adore, it has to be football. I am a qualified class 3 referee, and I am an avid supporter of Torquay United, and of course, England. I also like to play it, and I play for a local Ladies' team called Teignmouth Strikers (we are top class footballers, don't let the fact that we are at the bottom of the league fool you!). I also like to kick the ball about with my friends from time to time.
Anyway, that's enough talking about me and football and more to about the sport in general.
Torquay United
For those of you who have not heard of this top class division 3 football team, (why not?), they are certainly the team to look out for in this division. They play brilliantly, and although they may not be Premiership standard at this point in time, I have every faith in them of becoming so in the up-coming seasons.
For those of you who have heard of the team because of their narrow escape from the Vauxhall Conference a few seasons ago, ignore that small mis-hap! I came to the conclusion that this was due to a mixture of bad refereeing, bad luck, and some kind of mistake with the scoring! What is for certain is that it will NOT happen again!
If you have heard of the team because of their star player Rodney Jack, i'm not surprised. Unfortunately, because of lack of funds, the people at the top decided it was necessary to sell him to Crewe, but never fear, the team WILL cope without him!
If you do not come from England, and haven't got a clue what I'm talking about, but would like to know more, or you have an interest like myself in this subject, then I have included some links at the bottom of this page.
However, if you are already an avid supporter, I salute you, as I now know that you have taste.
World Cup '98
Now, to not have heard about this event and it's results you must have been living on a different planet. With the home team winning by beating the previous world champions, the final was not to be missed. However, along with the rest of the English population, I was incredibly dissappointed with England being knocked out so early on. I certainly felt that they deserved to reach the semis.
I sat kicking myself as David Beckham kicked out, thinking, "the Stupid boy" (in not such polite terms it has to be said), but I felt we still had hope, but as soon as we got to penalties I had a horrible feeling that we'd lose (although reaching this point we should have won!), and as usual, the England manager chose different people to those whom I would have chosen to take the kicks. But I shan't dwell on the matter.
All I have left to say is congratulations to France, although I lost 5 to my brother because they beat Brazil!
