Twelve Monkeys

Starring Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt. This is another of my all time favorite films, not only is it addictive to watch, with a brilliant dystopian plot, it is also very well made in view of the media language. It is similar in this aspect to "The Usual Suspects" in that it has a large number of clues in it to "who did it" that you only actually recognise after having seen the film. However, that is the only way in which these two films can be compared together.

Bruce Willis plays his tough guy role well as usual, but it has a bit of character necessary for the film along with it. Brad Pitt plays the completely insane son of a rich scientist very convincingly which is somewhat disturbing (!) but does make the film an excellent one. All the performances are impressive, and help make the film one of my favorites.

I have just one suggestion if you are watching this film for the first time, and that is to not watch it too late at night, because it does take a bit of concentrating on to follow, but it is worth it.

At times you, as an audience, do wonder if perhaps James Cole (Bruce Willis) is completely mad, and the film is quite disorientating, which is not only shown through the music but also through the angles and content of shots. The only very slight complaint I have in this film is that after seeing it for the tenth time, the flash backs of his "dream" get a little annoying.

Well worth watching, and very cleverly made. return to film menu
